Finally the due credit is given to the correct player who can change the game in Man Utd. WAYNE ROONEY. After reading today's newpaper, I feel that people are starting to see that Ronaldo only possesses that standard set of stepovers... They are not looking at the rising star...
How did United beat Arsenal with a relatively weaker team they fielded against Man City?
The Key is Wayne Rooney.
When the Englan star was out of the Manchester Derby serving a suspension, United looked disjointed and bereft of imagination - even with Ronaldo, Tevez and Giggs.
But Rooney returned to action against Arsenal and the team was transformed.
Players like Carrick, Fletcher, Nani, Park Ji-Sung are not Ferguson's 1st choice, but alongside Rooney, they played like world beaters.
Why? Simply because they caught onto Rooney's enthusiasm and drive to win.
Rooney may not score as many goals as Ronaldo, nor is he anywhere as skillful as the Portugese superstar, but he is more important to United than any other player.
That's because of his ability to inspire all around him, his ability to lead by example, his refusal to walk away without a fight.
Rooney plays every game as if his life depends on it - he will never think about saving himself for the next "more important" game.
No matter who wears the armband at United, or who scores the most goals, Rooney is the man Red Devils cannot do without.
The United boss had admitted earlier this season that Rooney can be a future United captain. He said :"Wayne is a player with great determination and spirit. They are qualities similar to those of two or three of our captains of the past such as Steve Bruce, Bryan Robson and Roy Keane. Sometimes these are qualities that help the team."
In fact, I can tell you that Rooney is very much like a young Ferguson.
During his playing days, Ferguson was a foul-mouth, bad-tempered striker, who sometimes got into trouble for barraging referees. Sounds familiar?
Ferguson was never a prolific striker, nor was he the most skilful. What he had, though. was that fierve determination to win, the influence and respect among his team-mates.
Rooney is that same.
While Ferguson cannot go on to the pitch to scream at his charges, Rooney will do it for him.
We have seen Rooney giving his own version of the hairdryer treatment on team-mates, opponents and officilas alike.
Ronaldo's goals and trickery are the accesories that make the United bandwagon look flashy.
BUT ROONEY is the man who really drives on the team.
